Brenda Veldtman

Antjie Krog was born in Kroonstad in 1952. She is a writer, academic, poet, translator and activist, internationally renowned for her contributions to literature and social justice.

Breaking onto the Afrikaans literary scene at the age of seventeen, Krog has, over the last five decades, published twelve collections of poetry for adults (and three for children), six books of non-fiction, and numerous translation and research projects. Her experiences as a radio journalist covering South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission resulted in her most famous work, Country of My Skull, which won the Olive Schreiner Prize and the Sunday Times Alan Paton Award. In 2018 she was awarded the Gouden Ganzenveer, one of the most significant awards in Dutch literature.

She is an Extraordinary Professor at the University of the Western Cape.
