We are open to submissions.

Please read and follow the following guidelines carefully. We are a small team, so we can only evaluate submissions that follow the guidelines.

1. Please make your query to submissions@bat.is 
2. Your submission should contain, in an attachment (either PDF or Word document), either the first 10 000 words or first 40 typed pages† of the manuscript you wish for us to consider. For poetry, please send 10 poems or 10 typed pages. 
3. In the body of your email, please include your writer’s biography and anything that you would like us to know about the book. A synopsis is welcome but is not necessary.

We will be in touch with you if we wish to read the entire work.  
 
At the moment we are especially interested in novels written by writers from or living in Southern Africa or Scotland. We are also open to approaches for collections of poetry, short fiction, and narrative non-fiction. 
 
Your book must be unpublished in the United Kingdom and/or the Republic of Ireland. 
 
Because of the large volume of work we handle, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to respond to you quickly. If you have not heard from us in three months, please consider your submission unsuccessful. Thank you in advance for your patience. 
 
^† You may supply slightly more or less than these amounts so that your manuscript ends at a natural break.
